Planting Directions
Bloom 'N AgainĀ® Azaleas all need semi-shade in well-drained soil. For the best results, make sure the top of the root ball is above soil level when planting.

1.       Dig a planting hole twice as large as the root ball.

2.       Remove the plant from the container and untangle the roots just inside the container.

3.       Backfill around plant with amended soil including organic matter.

4.       Make sure the top of the root ball is one inch above ground level.

5.       Gently pack the soil, then water well to remove air pockets.

6.       Mulch the area above the root ball with two to four inches of pine needles, pine bark or other organic mulch. Keep mulch 3" from the plant stem on all sides.

7.       Check your specific variety for growth rates and space accordingly.

8.       Keep moist until established. Water regularly when top 3" of soil is dry.

Fertilizing
Fertilize after flowering in the spring, again 30-60 days later, and again lightly (1/2 recommended rate) in late summer/early fall using an acid formula fertilizer or azalea/camellia food. Consult your preferred Garden Center for their recommendation about rates and specific products to use in your yard and be sure to follow the product directions as specified.

Pruning Directions

The Bloom 'N AgainĀ® Collection Azaleas are unique in their ability to bloom twice a year, but this does bring up the question of pruning. Azaleas lend themselves to a natural form and pruning is really only needed to gently shape or for size restrictions. If you find that it is necessary to prune, do so immediately after blooming in the spring for best bud set for the next season.

Watering

Azaleas need to be planted in well-drained soil, so water often for the first year, or until the plant is established, to keep the soil moist. Generally, water regularly when top 3" of soil is dry and mulch with organic matter to help retain moisture, keeping mulch a few inches away from the stem. Do not let sit in standing water. This indicates that your soil needs amending with organic matter for better drainage. Once established, you should only need to water during periods of drought.

Always check with your local Garden Center for specific recommendations for your area.
